Hartlepool Literacy Taskforce Business Sub-Group Meeting - 13 October 2025 at 10am

Thank you to everyone who attended our successful Launch Event in July. As we start the new academic year, we're excited to get our business sub-group up and running.

Led by Hartlepool College Principal Darren Hankey, our partnership approach brings together local businesses, Hartlepool Borough Council, North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust, Kier Group, and Hartlepool College to tackle literacy challenges in our community.

With major regeneration happening across Hartlepool, we need to ensure our residents have the skills and confidence to make the most of new opportunities. More than a third of adults in Hartlepool have very low literacy levels, affecting their career prospects and family life.

Our three focus areas:

• Building public confidence in literacy skills
• Improving educational outcomes at all levels
• Creating a network of employers supporting literacy development
